Transition and Relocation Services

The definition of “senior” keeps evolving. When I was a child, a senior was an elder. He (or she) was defined as a retired person over 65, and when he (she) became frail, or could not care for himself anymore, he moved in with family, or moved into a nursing home or retirement home.

Today with longer life spans, we have generations of seniors, and all sorts of new terminology. Boomers have become Zoomers. Mick Jagger is a Senior Citizen. By 2031, over 48% of the population in Canada will be over the age of 55.

Now, when a senior chooses to make a lifestyle change, it is not always for health reasons anymore.

Some seniors choose to move up. You may be selling a modest detached home and moving into a luxury condominium or retirement community.

Some seniors choose to move down. You may be living in a condominium and moving out of Toronto or the GTA to live closer to your children, and the equity from this area allows you to purchase a larger home in your children’s community.

Some seniors choose to move out. You may have paid your dues working and raising a family, and now in your retirement years you want to spend your winters in Florida and your summers at the cottage.

And of course, you may need to move for health reasons. The stairs may be too difficult to maneuver. Your home may not have a main floor bathroom or laundry room. Your property may be too difficult to care for. Your health may be fine right now, but you can feel things shifting, and you want to make a move while you still have your mental and physical capabilities

Regardless of the reason for the move, moving is stressful!

  • What will I do with a lifetime full of possessions?
  • How will I have the energy to pack up and settle in at the other end?
  • Where will I go?
  • Can I afford a move?
